Well, yeah you're right. But for me, it's irrational to only give mercy to people such as Flowey (that edgy SOB) without any effort of self defense.

It depends on the context of the situation. You could definitely do this, but that doesn't always necessarily mean that it was the "right" thing to do at the time.

I'll give an example, and keep in mind I'm Christian in real life so that'll have an impact on my sense of morales, laws, etc., you get the idea. Let's say that a robber broke into your house, but you happened to be up at the time. Now, let's say said robber steals a small bronze statue or something, sees you, and then tries to run away, and you're holding a gun. Normally the law laid down by God for Christians is that you're allowed to kill if someone breaks into your house illegally AND you're forced to defend yourself/someone else you know from a violent intruder. But in this case, all the robber does is steal a material item that isn't necessary for someone to live (the bronze statue). The robber doesn't try to assault someone, they just flee. In this case, showing mercy by not shooting the robber could be argued as the best choice possible because all the robber did was steal some bronze statue, so all you need to do is call the cops and hopefully a few days later you'll get that bronze statue back and the robber hopefully learns thir lesson this time.

But now....let's mix this up a bit. Let's say the robber instead tries to kidnap your child, but you have a clear shot at the robber because your child is fighting back and manages to back away from them a few feet. Under God's laws (and hopefully your local laws as well), you're allowed to kill if it means defending someone else. That robber could be violent, or even worse, a pedophile, and that's your beloved child that's about to be kidnapped. Would you show mercy and not shoot the robber? Oh, and by the way, cops usually take several minutes to reach your house, sometimes in the double digits, and all it'd take for a pedophile to steal away a small child and make a getaway in a car is way less than that potentially.

Real life is pretty gray at times, but like I said in a previous comment, a true peacemaker will know what option is the best option. Sometimes, you don't get both, because mercy only really works if the other person is merciful as well (or at least at the time). If the robber is a pedophile, and all you do is click the mercy button repeatedly....that's likely not going to deter them from kidnapping your child if they realize you're not going to stop them through force.

The sad thing is, when you apply the idea of always showing Mercy from Undertale to real life, this is what could happen. A relentless murderer will never give up and showing them mercy will not stop them.

It worked in Undertale because Undertale is a videogame, so the rules are different of course. In real life though....what would you do if this was about to happen to someone you knew, cared about or even loved? Would you just stand there and keep clicking mercy despite knowing that someone else is going to die brutally? Or...would you step in and stop the violence the only way possible to stop a murderer: fighting them off?

Mercy is nice, but it doesn't always work in real life. Sometimes, it can lead to even worse circumstances. Sometimes, the fight option isn't the worst thing possible. A true peacekeeper will know which option is the best choice to solve a problem, and sometimes that means getting your hands dirty.

My exact thoughts while playing the game - it reminds me of what Flowey said - if you keep giving mercy to a relentless killer, will you finally kill out of frustration? Also, when Flowey said he would come back and kill everyone I loved, I no longer cared about doing the Pacifist run and chose fight. If someone says something like that to me, I'm not going to give them mercy, especially after they killed Asgore in front of my eyes.

A better way to phrase that is "don't murder and don't be murdered." Killing is justifiable while murdering is not.

Eh, you know what, sorry for all the serious talk, but I usually get into these kinds of topics.

(You are walking through the Underground looking for Frisk when you spot something.) What is that? (You see Frisk, dead, hanging by some vines.) No, no, no, no, no, no! (You start running towards her.) No, please, no! (You cut her down and hug her.) *screaming* No please! This can not be happening! Frisk I am so *crying* so sorry! (You fall to your knees and hold her head to yours.) Please *crying* why, why did it happen to her!?! (You start to violently cough.) It should have been me! (You pick Frisk up and start walking to Torial’s.) It is my fault! “It is!” (You turn around slowly.) You! “Yes, it was me.” Why!?! She showed you kind, mercy, and you kill her! “Yes, and you’re so stupid for letting her out of your sight!” (You start to twitch, you place Frisk on a bed of flowers turn to Flowey.) I am going to tear you apart! “Yeah, right!” (Flowey wraps a vine around your head.) “You can’t hurt me.” (He snaps your neck, you fall to the ground and melt into a puddle of blood.) “You are so weak.” (Flowey grabs Frisk and drags her to him.) “You stupid little human, always thinking you could bring the best out of people.” *distorted voice* (A hand reaches out of the puddle.) “Still alive?” (You climb out of the puddle, your armor covered in blood, your posture deformed, your body twitches and parts fade in and out of reality.) Put her down now! “As you wish.” (Flowey throws Frisk into the ground like a rag doll.) “Was that what you wanted?” (You start running at Flowey and punch him in the screen.) “Wow I didn’t.” *punch* “Expect you to.” *punch* “Be that.” *punch* “Fast!” (Flowey catches your fist and snaps your wrist.) *screaming* (Flowey grabs your neck and puts his “thumbs” on your throat.) “I remember a time where you hated humans, what happened to that?” (You struggle to break free.) No *choking* Frisk I’m so............... (You head falls limp.) “Dead again.” (Flowey throws your body to the side.) “You lost, I won, this world is mine.”

Flowey asks at the beginning of the game, "what will you do if you meet a relentless killer?" This is what happens. Relentless killers never give up, and they never accept mercy. Poor Frisk stuck with her beleifs to the end, but despite all that good karma, all that love she received from everyone, she was murdered.

Oh wells. Time to reset. :P

Of course they do meet a relentless killer in a way, Chara if you remeber. It's kind of implied that they are always with you.

Chara isn't a relentless killer. Not unless we guide her down that path. Chara herslef says that at the beginning, she was so confused, but with our guidance, she discovered the true reason she was brought back: power. Chara is always with frisk. This is true. However, only in Genocide is it made evident that frisk is aware of Chara. My theory about it is that Frisk is Charams reincarnation. This fact brought Chara back when Frisk fell on the flowers, which is supposedly Chara's grave. I think that, like Frisk, Chara is a pacifist. She's not a good person, but not a murderous lunatic either. However, when you start the game you choose what path to guide the confused children down, deciding wether chara's madness grows or diminishes. No one seems to take the fact that Chara literally states it's our fault she's a genocidal maniac into account when judging poor Chara. If not for such poor guidance, she wouldn't be a genocidal maniac.

But Frisk still met one. And it is mentioned chara wasn't a good person. The whole plan to free monsters would have still required them to kill Humans so yeah relentless killer is a relentless killer. Doesn't mean they are cruel. Thst is the difference between genocide chara and normal chara. Genocide chara is cruel consumed by hatred, etc. Normal chara did what she did to try and free the monsters though the plan failed.

And no chara states that it's frisk's fault that it happened because they started killing. People make Frisk out to be a pacifist but really frisk starts killing. Chara gained strength from the exp and lvl.

The thing about undertale is there is diffrent theorys much like touhou project. Can you be absolutely sure that they are talking to the player and not frisk?

So far I've only seen Sans break the fourth wall.

Really? XD Flowey subtly breaks the fourth wall at least once. He says, "there are those two weak to do it themselves. So they watch someone else do it. Maybe someone like that is watching now." XD

And what you say is true. But Chara, in my opinion, may be speaking to both. Becuase yes, frisk started killing, but she only does so if we the player guide her down that path. XD so she may be speaking to both Frisk and the player.

And I think the main reason people make frisk out to be a pacifist is becuase that's the most popular path and Chara only ever makes an appearance in those videos in the secret lab during that path. So people view frisk as the pacifist. In my opinion, Chara more likely is the pacifist, at least originally. A true pacifist, in my opinion, is not someone who refuses to harm others. It is someone who knows there is no good time to hurt others, but there is a good time to protect those who would be hurt by those who wish to harm others. Chara chose, as those videos implied, to give her life to save the monsters from their cruel imprisonment. She knew killing was necessary, but she still did it.

Frisk, in my opinion, is pacifistic to a certain extent, but can and will easily abandon those morals when it suits her. I.e. When the player chooses to make her do so. XD

The Flowey thing I skipped most of his dialogue the third time around. No point listening to it.

Well it really depends on the player until word of god says something. I don't necessarily view chara as the true villian or frisk as the true hero. Undertale is more Shades of grey then black and white. Especially for Frisk and Chara.

Sadly I've seen another picture where Chara is controlling Frisk as a puppet but above Chara's are the things to control a puppet but you don't know who is holding it.

Or we could take this another way, and say that the true evil is Humanity in general. I mean Humans are the antagonist throughout Undertale. Hmm, that is something to consider now that I think about it. A lot of the bad stuff is caused by something Humans have, caused, or created.

Very true. :3 Personally tho, I view Chara and Frisk as both being capable of being the true heroes and true villains of undertale. but frankly, I think the true villain is the gamer. This game remembers each action you do and remembers when you reset to go back and change something. It's basically telling you that you as the player are like a god in games like undertale where you decide how the story goes. Actions have consequences and punishment comes, if not to you than to the characters you control. This game is a huge statment about the human condition. Many people like to be the villain in games, and this game demonstrates the punishments of being the villain, unlike many other rpg's i've played. It's one of the many reasons undertale is my favorite game of all time. X3 That and I like how people create their own alternate universe's in the fandom. It basically lets you experience the story in alternate universe without you having any actual control over how it goes. I find that entertaining, many probably don't, but I do. :3

Ahhh actually I meant for those to look like sparks from toriel's fire attacks xD The original intention was that even if Frisk never hurts a single monster, the monsters don't really show any mercy in return (hence undyne's spears, flowey's vines, cuts and bruises from random encounters )

a lot of people think this is frisk being punished for genocide, which is okay too! xD
